Meet Hannanese Diaz

Hello. My name is Katherine Diaz and thank you for considering to watch my fur baby. Hannanese (Ha-nna for short) is a 10lb, 6 year old spayed Havanese. She sees a Dr. Jacqueline Wilhelmy, a behaviorist, for fearful aggression and separation anxiety. She takes medication to help with these behaviors. She takes 4mg of Reconcile and 25mg of Trazadone daily along with 100-200mg Gabapentin as needed. She does have a bite history around grooming but has not bit anyone in years. We now take her to a certified fearful groomer and she has be doing well there. Hanna is a clear communicator and will show signs if she does not want an particular engagement. She lives with my husband and I. I am her favorite person in general, however my husband is her favorite person to play with. As soon as he comes home she races to the door, does a play bow, and they have a fun. She loves to cuddle with us both especially on the couch. Hanna is permitted on our furniture. Hanna is independent and spends time sleeping on one of her dog beds or the couch in the living room. When she wants to cuddle or play she will let you know.

Hanna diet consists of 1 cup of kibble & a jar a baby food with her meds in the morning, treats throughout the day with training activities, and a dental bone in the evening for dinner. Hanna does go on walks with the ideal being a 30 minute walk or we may play for 30 minutes in our fenced back yard. When playing in the back yard, she loves to chase her squeaky toys and she plays with her enrichment toys. She is walked using a harness or a slip leash. Here are links to a videos of Hanna going on a walk with my young nieces and them playing together: https://youtu.be/6Xl_I4-JaSY & https://youtu.be/Mzc8BPaKQEE. Hanna is also good with my elderly mother and is not rough with her, furthermore she obeys my commands whenever I tell her to move away or not jump up on her. On walks Hanna likes to lead, picking out all the stops to sniff and pee on. She does pull at time, but she does respond to my correction. Hanna can react to other people and dogs on walks, however while walking we keep our distance and cross the street if need be. The worst situation was she will bark and seek to chase, but as soon as person or other dog passes she is redirected and calmed back down and is able to focus on our walk.

Hanna responds by pacing and barking to unfamiliar sounds and if surprised. Depending on how scared she is she may seek out her person for comfort. In non-home environments when meeting new people see tends to hind behind me. Hanna doesn’t like it when new people come in to her home. She will bark up a storm, but after a while she does calm down and watch the person/people. She will eventually walk up to the person and smell them. However at times she immediately smelled people when new people come in to our home. She is not aggressive, she will just bark until she calms down or many treats are given to her. Hanna is a foodie. She does not meet new people or new dogs regularly so she will need to be slowly introduced to new people and dogs. I would say that Hanna will start out somewhat fearful of new people, however if the person respects her boundaries seeking permission for any engagement she becomes cautiously friendly. She doesn’t like fast moves with new people, so when they stand up or move she will bark again. She does not react to attack them; she will run up and start barking at them, if not distracted with a lot of treats. Hanna is hot or cold with other dogs. Hanna has not been well socialized, so when meeting new people or dogs in non-home environments she is cautious. It does take time for Hanna to warm up to people but when she does she makes them her person for the time she is with them. Hanna has been watched before in homes with other dogs and multiple people and children and she has done fine. Sitters report that she will spend most of her time alone, alert, and not eating. Hanna can handle being left alone at times for 8 hours and is fine. She normally sleeps on the couch. She is house trained, able to go outside or on a pee pad. Hanna normally roams the house when we are home or gone, however she does have a play pen. She does not enjoy being in there, but over time does calm down.

Hanna does not like car rides and when she has to be in the car prefers to be as close as possible to her person. Her vet is Women’s Animal Center (3839 Richlieu Rd, Bensalem, PA 19020 – (215) 750-5252) and preferred emergency hospital is BluePearl Pet Hospital Levittown (301 Veterans Hwy, Levittown, PA 19056 – (215) 750-7884). You can view her vaccine record here: https://shorturl.at/f4Zi3.
